在加拿大做广告，只写中文怎么行？近日，加拿大西温哥华地区公交车站的中文广告牌引来了当地民间组织“把加拿大放在第一位”（Putting Canada First）的不满。

（小编：西温哥华West Vancouver并不在温哥华市区里，而是“大温哥华地区”的一部分，当然离温哥华市也不远）

该组织的发言人萨尔茨伯格（Brad Saltzberg）向自治区委员会抱怨称，这些广告牌上只有中文，而没有英语和法语，这削弱了“加拿大传统上的英语和法语身份”。

西温哥华官方才不想趟这个浑水，市长迈克尔•史密斯明确表示：广告使用任何语言都没有问题。

但萨尔茨伯格和伙伴们可是不依不饶，今年春天他们也曾对温哥华国际机场的中英广告牌持反对意见：“一下飞机，迎接我们的不是我们国家的象征——国旗、惠斯勒（加拿大旅游胜地）的照片或骑警，而是中文……这无法反映加拿大的文化和历史。”

说起这座机场所在地列治文（Richmond），当地有超过60%的居民是移民，是加拿大移民比例最高的城市。今年3月，在当地一些人的压力下，巴士候车厅的一则中文广告被撤下，这块广告牌是一家社会服务机构大的，内容是帮助讲中文的居民戒除赌博恶习。

看到了这么厉害的民意，加拿大网友们如何吐槽呢？又能分成几个类型：

强力反讽型：

Steve Karmazenuk：这正是我们需要的…通过一个新的种族中心法案，让一种不存在的对人们文化身份的威胁带来恐惧，让人们分裂。

Just what we need...another ethnocentric law designed to divide people through the fear of a nonexistent threat to their cultural identities.

John：多么愚蠢和幼稚。广告是粤语或普通话又能如何？显然他们试图吸引亚裔客户。而且，告示牌不会破坏任何东西。

How silly and childish. If the ads are in Cantonese or Mandarin, so what? Obviously, they're trying to attract an Asian clientele. And, the signs do not undermine anything.

Nadene M.：我 们是个令人骄傲的多文化国家，特别在南部地区，这里有很大的华人社群，其中很多是老人家，并且需要使用他们自己的语言来适应这个陌生的国家。我认为没有任 何理由让广告牌不能包括粤语和英文。如果你坚持要印上法文，也是可以的。在我们省里有那么多糟糕的事情发生，还是用你的声音去改善我们的社区吧。

we are a proud multi-cultural country and the lower mainland especially, has a large Chinese community..many of those are elderly and need to use their own language to navigate a strange new country. I see no reason why signage should not include Cantonese as well as English. if you insist that French be included, then that's fine too, there are so many terrible things happening in our province...use your voice to improve our community.

Mark H.：我勒个去，萨尔茨伯格还能再远离现实一点吗？“这没有反映加拿大文化和历史”，我大胆地猜测下，很多加拿大华裔在这儿的家庭历史比萨尔茨伯格先生要长的多。

Holy crap,could Saltzberg be any farther from reality? "It just doesn't reflect Canadian culture and history" I would venture a guess that there are many Chinese Canadians that have a much longer family history here than Mr Saltzberg.

部分认同型（不过没人认为不可以使用中文）：

Roger Drisdelle：我想说如果你想在英语和法语之外加一种语言在广告上，那么你应该在上面放上英语、法语以及你选的语言。加拿大有两种官方语言，它们应得到尊重。

I would say that if you want to add a language other then french and english to an advertisment, then you should put the add in english, french and the language that you so chose from then on. Canada has 2 official languages. They should be respected

（不过那样广告语是不是显得字数太多了点……）

Rei Miyasaka：一个合理的折中方案是要求英语或法语翻译和其他语言摆在同样重要或更突出的位置上。这是一个简单的修复。不需要太多敌意或防卫。

A reasonable compromise would be to require English/French translations to be equally or more prominently displayed than other languages. It's a simple fix. No need for so much hostility or vigilantism.

Ken：我不是个偏激的人，我父母从德国移民到此，他们学习说英语，因为这是这里人所用的语言。他们没有要求会讲德语的银行人员以及德语的巴士站牌。你说什么都好，但在我看来，移民应该适应他们移民的国家，而不是要求国家来适应他们。

I am not a bigot, my parents immigrated from Germany, and guess what? They learned to speak English because that is the language the people spoke. There were no demands for German speaking bank tellers and bus signage. What you say is all nice and good, but in my humble opinion, people who immigrate are supposed to adapt to the country they are immigrating to, not demanding the country adapt to them..

学术讨论型：

Hugh G.：根本没有一成不变的“国家”身份。国家只是在土地上绘制出的线条。人口在转移，文化在变化和发展。世界是随时间变化的。让我们从20世纪有毒害的排外主义里走出来，成长成长吧。

There is no such thing as an immutable, unchanging "national" identity. Nations are just real estate with arbitrary lines drawn in shifting sand. Populations shift. Cultures change and evolve. The world changes and time goes on. Let's move on from toxic 20th century nativism and just grow up.

Terry S.：这场关于丧失我们文化或历史的讨论，基本上和那些反对同性婚姻的争论是一样的。那些反对者称同性婚姻会摧毁异性婚姻的神圣性。这一想法是基于一种缺乏安全感的非理性偏见以及恐惧和不宽容，并非事实。

This debate about losing our culture or history if a foreign language is used on a sign is basically the same argument used by those who oppose gay marriages. Those opposed say gay marriage will destroy the sanctity of heterosexual marriage. That idea is an irrational insecurity based on prejudice, fear and intolerance, not facts.

纯吐槽型：

Paul G.：在列治文有一堆只服务于讲中文购物者的购物中心，可世界末日也没来啊……

There are entire malls in Richmond that only cater to Chinese-speaking shoppers. The world did not end....

想看世界末日，哪有这么容易。■
